Working With Ten Frames

We did some number work with ten frames today. Each child's name was written on a ten frame.

And the children were invited to sort names by the number of letters in each.

This activity was meant to help children practice counting while reading their name and their peers' names.

Lunch Box Project

Families, we have been thinking of ways to help our children connect with home while they are at school. As a mom I know how meaningful it is to my daughter when I send her a note in her lunch. I was surprised this year to find she was writing back to me on the note - I would find it at the end of the day when cleaning out her lunch box. As a way for your child to connect with home during the day and engage in meaningful reading (and perhaps writing) why don't you consider sending a note in your child's lunch in order to surprise him or her at school? You can use a combination or words and picture symbols to convey your message! If you ask a question he or she might be more motivated to write back. Let us know what you think!

Drama Center Documentation

We have posted some documentation outlining the journey our children are taking with our dramatic arts center 'dance studio'. Check it out next time you are in!

Our New Science Center!

We did a bit of reorganizing today and our science center has been moved next to our beautiful windows. We hope the children will be excited when they see the new location and materials waiting for them Monday!

Signs of Fall

We went looking for signs of fall!

Snack Survey

At our snack center we have a question that the children are invited to answer each day. It's one way to embed some literacy and numeracy into our snack area. The children author the questions for their peers to answer and we tabulate the results.

Dance Studio

Wow! A big thank you to Leah's family for a donation of tulle today!

The children were so excited to create their own tutus!  They were easy to make - just tie pieces onto a belt!

Looking in a mirror at one's self in such a beautiful costume is so much fun!

Of course one cannot dance without a dance studio! The children decided to turn our drama center into one!  Stay tuned...

The children wore their skirts all day!

We welcome any ideas from our families who might have dance ideas or a dance background. Perhaps someone willing to come in and perform a few dance steps for us?

Sorting Colour Chips

Colours have been an interest lately in our room. At the art center today we displayed hundreds of paint chips and fabric scraps and invited the children to sort these by colour. The children keenly observed that a colour has many light and dark shades.

The result...

We now have a beautiful display in our art center!

Communal Autumn Display

Our children have started to notice changes outdoors now that it's almost Autumn. They have also begun to gel as a class so we wanted to create a communal piece of artwork to reflect this achievement.

We encouraged the children to help co-create a tree in fall by stamping using paper tubes. We painted the trunk and the children added the leaves.

The tree slowly emerged...

We placed our beautiful piece of artwork on a table outside of our classroom for all to see!  We also added a few other autumn items too!
