Writing Nook

We are attempting to encourage children to engage in more writing and drawing activities during free choice time. We moved some furniture around to create a cozy 'writing nook'....

Added some new writing tools as incentive...

And watched the children flock to the area during center time...

I listened to their animated conversation as they drew together - discussing what each person was responsible for in the communal picture and telling the story as it unfolded. Today's drawing was of a haunted house. The writing nook definitely inspired much rich, oral language and storytelling today!
