Market Field Trip

Families, we have the opportunity to join the other Kindergarten classes in a trip to the market on Wednesday, January 22. We will depart the school at 9:00 a.m. and return for 11:30 a.m. We invite parents interested in attending to contact us. We are encouraging parents to drive or carpool as there will be limited room on the bus. Please return field trip forms and money to the school as soon as possible. Thank you!

Geometric Snowflakes

We set up a pattern block provocation that encouraged children to consider whether they could create snowflakes.

This activity was inspired by much discussion about snowflakes as a result of the recent snowfall we've had locally.

After some research we were able to find microscopic photos of snowflakes depicting their six points and beautiful patterns.

We examined the photos and encouraged the children to consider this information when working at the centre. We were amazed by what the children created!

Hopefully the predicted snow for this upcoming week will give us more inspiration for creation!

Dissecting the Hyacinth Bulb

Now that our hyacinths have bloomed we thought it would be interesting to put the bulbs out for exploration. We provided tweezers and safety glasses and invited the children to explore.

The girls got right to work dissecting the bulbs.

It was interesting to hear their observations of what they noticed. "It feels like worms but they are actually roots", "it looks like an onion", and "it's very soft underneath".

The children recorded their observations in a labelled drawing.

Tracing Our Bodies

The children have been writing the names of many body parts while in role at the doctor's office. They write these on patient's charts and in the appointment book.  We wanted to give then a visual prompt so we decided to trace a child's body and encourage the children to help us label it.

This was incredibly exciting and many children wanted to trace their body. They worked together to trace one another on large paper.

They helped each other cut the large tracings out.

They drew body parts on the cut outs to make them realistic!

What a great job they did!

Planting Bulbs

Playing in the Snow

It was so nice to finally be able to play outside now that the weather has warmed up. The children enjoyed being able to create with the packing snow.

Doctor's Office

It was time to change our drama centre so we polled the children to see what they wanted to play.

We had the children vote on whether the centre would become a restaurant or a doctor 's office.

The doctor's office was the clear winner with 16 votes! The children were so excited!

Our next job was to create a list of needed materials in order to make our centre as realistic as possible.

We will continue to add to our list tomorrow as we create the centre together. If you have any materials at home to donate or let us borrow in order to enhance our centre it would be greatly appreciated! If you work in the health care profession and are interested in visiting with us so we can learn more, please contact us. Thank you for your continued support!
