I am a Reggio Emilia inspired Full Day Kindergarten teacher and mother to three young children. This blog is meant as a communication tool for the families of our children and as a learning tool for the many educators who follow us. Please feel free to comment on posts and participate in our collective understanding of emergent curriculum.

Meet Flash!
Did you know we have a Betta fish in our room? The children have spent time watching it this past week.
The children wondered how the Betta gets all the way from Asia to our pet stores in Windsor. We encouraged the children to suggest names for the fish and then we voted.
We wanted to learn more about it so we read a nonfiction book.

Sidewalk Chalk Paint
We read a book today about opposites. To experiment with wet and dry materials we decided to paint with sidewalk chalk in the windy weather and see what happens. The children were fascinated to see how quickly the paint dried.
Tour of our School
Today we went on a tour of the school to learn about all of the exciting places in our building! We saw...
...the living wall outside of our classroom.
...the beautiful hallway.
...our library.
...the office.
...the atrium.
...the washroom near the gym.
...the gym.
...the mechanical room. (Our school has windows so the children can see how our school is maintained.)
...the rooftop garden.
Why don't you ask your child what his/her favourite place in the school is?

Noodle Bracelets
A kindergarten favourite! The children were excited to make noodle bracelets for their loved ones. It was an activity to promote fine motor practice and help ease the transition to school. Some friends even made patterns!

Wish Wreath
Thanks to those families who have sent in the ribbon with their hope or wish for their child's year in kindergarten. It's looking lovely on our classroom door!
