In and Out

We played a new math game today to encourage addition work. 

The children had to toss rocks onto a paper. They then counted how many landed in the circle and how many landed outside the circle. 

These numbers were then used to create addition sentences. 

We discussed that because we were using ten rocks the sum of our math equations would always equal ten but there were lots of different ways to equal ten.  

Investigating the Hyacinth Bulbs

We've been exploring the hyacinth bulb in our classroom. The children were very interested in observing what the bulbs looked like. After cutting a bouquet of the flowers for the art center, we placed the bulbs along with some tools at in our science area. 

The children carefully extracted the bulbs and roots from the soil. 

Once the bulbs were loose we cut them in half to see what the inside looked like. 

Snowflakes on black paper

We spent time on this snowy day catching snowflakes on black paper in order to study their design.

Spring Smells

Mmmm! Hyacinths smell so nice this time of year! We invited the children to investigate the flowers...

...and record whether or not they enjoyed the smell using a t-chart.

A Snowy Canvas

White snow makes the perfect canvas for watercolours!  We brought painting materials outdoors and the children were eager to create snowy artwork. 

Shaving Cream Fun

What better on a cold, snowy day then to have a super messy, super fun shaving cream sensory experience on the art table. 

It's even more fun when you add the primary colours of paint to it and experiment with colour mixing. 

Library Field Trip

It was too cold to walk to the library so the librarian came to us! 

Library Field Trip

Families, tomorrow is our scheduled library field trip. The children will be walking a short distance. Please ensure they are dressed properly for the weather including boots, hats, mittens and a scarf. Thanks kindly!

Geometric Snowflakes

After reading the book "Snow" we discussed snowflakes as a group. 

The children were interested in discussing what snowflakes look like. We used the illustrations in the book as a guide; snowflakes are made of shapes, are symmetrical, and have 6 points. 

We placed paper pattern blocks at a table and invited the children to make their own snowflakes. 

Their work was mathematically stunning!
