Primary Colour Bubble Prints

The children were invited to explore printmaking and colour mixing today using bubble wrap and the three primary colours of paint. 

Children painted the textured side of the bubble wrap and made prints on their papers by stamping over and over. 

Beautiful new colours and designs appeared like magic!

Bubble Wrap Stamping

The children have recently noticed textures in the world around them - the rough bark on trees, the bumps on seed pods, the curved edges of our shelves - so we offered them some interesting materials to use in the art area in order to explore both texture and printmaking.

We encouraged the children to explore what might happen when they applied paint to bubble wrap. They noticed that if paint is placed on the smooth side of the bubble wrap, it leaves a slick print on paper. But if paint is applied on the bumpy side, it's possible to create beautiful printed artwork.

Using complimentary colours of blue, black, and white ensured that even when the paint mixed the results would be stunning!

Bubble Wrap Print Making

We placed some paint and bubble wrap at the art center and invited the children to explore making prints. 

The children painted the bumpy side of the wrap. 

And stamped it on the paper. 

The result was a beautiful mixture of colours and prints.
