Rainbow Salt Names

Watercolours and salt are a fun activity to investigate colour mixing and the unique way that salt absorbs water. The children outlined their names in glue...

...and sprinkled salt over the name.

When a brush saturated with watercolours gently touches the salt it is absorbed, colouring the salt beautifully!

The names become rainbow-like and new shades are created as the colours mix together.

We even noticed math as the children created beautiful patterns in their work!

Hyacinth Still Life Painting

The hyacinth bulb we have been watching has finally started to bloom! We placed it on the art table with watercolours and invited the children to observe and explore using the language of paint.

It's always interesting to see how the children interprete and communicate their understanding of the same object in such varied ways.

Glue Resist Watercolours

The children created some beautifully intricate artwork in preparation for our upcoming school art show this Thursday.

The first step was to create flower designs using white glue and squeeze bottles. The children squeezed the glue into beautiful pictures and designs. Then they sprinkled delicate seed beads onto their design.

Once the glue dried the children used watercolours to paint in and around the glue.

The results were stunning!

Glue and Watercolour Art

We tried a new activity this week. After colouring white glue with creamy baker's food colouring, the children were invited to squirt the glue into interesting swirls and designs on thick paper.

Once dry, watercolours were placed at the art area and the children were encouraged to paint on top and in between the swirls.

This activity required patience and perseverance as the children carefully worked to paint the different sections of their design.

The results were stunning! Check them out next time you visit our classroom!
