Spring Smells

Mmmm! Hyacinths smell so nice this time of year! We invited the children to investigate the flowers...

...and record whether or not they enjoyed the smell using a t-chart.

Meet Flash!

Did you know we have a Betta fish in our room? The children have spent time watching it this past week.

We wanted to learn more about it so we read a nonfiction book.

The children wondered how the Betta gets all the way from Asia to our pet stores in Windsor. We encouraged the children to suggest names for the fish and then we voted.

Using our Nose to Vote!

We thought it would be fun to put out something really different at the math centre so we invited the children to smell two different Petri dishes soaked with extracts and vote for the smell they liked most.

The children had many interesting guesses for what they thought each scent was.

This popular activity had many children writing their name on the corresponding side of the t-chart to indicate their preference.

The orange extract was the clear favourite while just a few children enjoyed the maple scent!
