Our feeder continued to attract a wonderful variety of birds today including 2 female cardinals, bluejays, black-capped chickadees, sparrows, and one black squirrel who happily chomped on the discarded seeds below the feeder on the ground. We have encouraged the children to continue to observe what shows up at the feeder and to identify what kind of bird it is by noticing its characteristics and then referring to the birding cards we have in the science center. We have also set up a birding recording sheet where children can tally how many of each variety of birds they observe at the feeder. Some children are fascinated by what they see, spending time together watching through our window and excitedly announcing to others when a new bird arrives.
